Revaz Gabichvadze (1913-1999) was a Georgian composer. He established the first jazz and popular music ensemble in Georgia in 1941. Main works: opera Nana (1957), ballet Hamlet (1970, after William Shakespeare, Medea (1975 after Euripides) The Man Who Smiles (1986 after Victor Hugo), operetta Chrichina (1952), oratories Vephistkaosani ("The Knight in the Tiger's Skin" by Shota Rustaveli, 1938), Cantus Humanus (1979), nine symphonies (1963 1984), works for folk instruments, string orchestra, chamber orchestra, popular songs, music for theatre and films.
